Thanks again!!!

As of tonight, we are already almost to 400 views on this blog! Thank you sooooo much, everyone! Please continue to visit this blog and share it with others as well!!

I've decided to issue a challenge as well. If we hit 500 views by February 1st, then I will start a Facebook page by March!! Let's do this!! Thanks again everyone!

Be Organized!

Yeah, so I am definitely one that is guilty of having that "Organized Mess" on my desk. However, it's really only as the day progresses. I always organize it and clean it up before leaving for the day, so that I can start fresh the next day.

We all know how messy the students' desks can be, too!! When I taught in the classroom, it would just astound me how quickly some desks would get cluttered inside. Now that I teach K-5 computers, this is not an issue for me, luckily.

However, I am including some great organization ideas below. One of the ideas is shown to be something you can do to help organize at home, but I can totally see it also being applicable to the classroom.

NO Bullying Allowed!

We all know that Bullying in schools has become a bigger problem in recent years. Not to mention, you have to consider the effects that Cyberbullying can also cause.

I have really focused hard this year on making sure that my older students especially are aware of Internet Safety tips and Cyberbullying. It's unfortunately becoming more and more common. My hope is that maybe by teaching them about it BEFORE it occurs, that maybe it can either help prevent it from happening or at least help a student seek help if they are the victim.

I came across this great article below that had some very sad and alarming facts and statistics about bullying in schools. Please share this with others and spread the word! This is something that EVERYONE needs to be educated on, so as to hopefully prevent it from happening so much. Thanks.

Fun Printables and Rewards

I always try to change up the rewards that I have each class work towards for their good behavior in my Computer Lab. I don't want the students to lose interest in acting responsibly.

One common one that I try to rotate often, is a Game Day. The students love it! They are allowed to play any online games as long as they are not violent. I have many sites saved to my bookmark site.

I have also used a reward called "Free Seats". This allows the students to sit anywhere they like for one computer session. However, I still reserve the right to move people as needed.

A new one that I've also tried, is "Fun Stations". Basically, depending on the grade level, they are allowed to play games online, color pre-printed coloring sheets, play card games, do origami, etc. I have the stuff set out ahead of time. They really enjoy having some options.
Here is the link for my "Fun Stations" document (complete with links to resources). It is from my TpT site:

I am also including three other fun links to Printables or Fun Ideas to use with children. Enjoy!!

Bloom's & Technology

I came across this article today that offers many different pictures and ideas for how to use Bloom's Taxonomy with Technology. They do overlap a bit, but overall, it's really up to the individual teacher.

Keeping Kids Safe Online

The Internet can be a helpful, fun, and exciting place to explore. However, it can also be dangerous, especially to kids. In today's world, you unfortunately hear many stories of how the Internet has been the cause of crimes or heartaches involving children. It's truly sad to hear. I know I personally worry for my own kids someday.

But, as educators and parents, the best any of us can do to protect our kids while they are online, is to educate them. We need to educate them about the proper ways to use the internet, what's appropriate, and what to do if they should run into any "trouble" online. There are a lot weird and crazy people out there.

Here are some great websites to help teach kids about the dangers of the internet, as well as what to do if they should encounter any problems.

Lots of Bookmarks!

There are TONS of free sites out there for us to store bookmarks. I've tried many of them over the years: Delicious, iKeepBookmarks, Live Binders, etc.

I find it's easier to save the sites to a bookmarking site, that I know we will be using in the lab. This way, the students can find it a lot easier and are not required to type in long URL's.

Below are some of the professional and personal bookmarking sites that I have either used in the past, or am currently using:
